Welcome to The
Huguenot Society of The Huguenot
Society of South Carolina was established in Charleston in 1885. It is dedicated to
the preservation of the history and genealogy of French Protestant families both here and
abroad. The membership of the Society includes nearly 2000 descendants of these
Huguenots, with members from 35 states and several foreign countries. For the list

The principal
objectives of the Society are to:
Membership in the Huguenot Society is open to those who can document that they are descedants in the male or female line of a Huguenot family or individual who emigrated to America prior to the promulgation of the Edict of Toleration on November 28, 1787. No connection with South Carolina is required. (Click here for application information.) The Society maintains a library offering resources for historical and genealogical research. A qualified researcher is available to offer assistance, both on site and by email or regular mail. Members of the Society, as well as the general public, are invited to use the library facility during business hours. A minimal fee is charged for non-members. (Click here for online library catalogue.) The Society offices are located at The office and library are open from
9am-2pm, Monday through Friday, except for major holidays and the last two weeks in
December. On-street parking is available and metered lots are nearby.
